Written by the Greek playwright Euripides, “Medea” is a very controversial tragedy. What is the central/primary purpose of the play? Is the purpose important or meaningful today? How so?
Cody of the 9:30 m&w class: The purpose of the play is to state that murder and adultery is wrong and that all malicious actions return to haunt everyone. The purpose is meaningful today for people famus and unknown have cheated on their spouses, and some have murdered out of revenge.
The purpose for this is to show what is going on in disfunctional families Yes, it is important today for many people act this way many times. Women get away from murdering the family.
I believe it shows the acts of a women who is angry because of her husbands unfaithfulness and the willingness to do anything to cause pain to him. This is still very relevant today because this actually still happens where women and or men get hurt by their cheating spouse and kill them, themselves or try to do something to hurt one another.
The purpose of the play is to show that if a women or person is scorned or betrayed they will seek revenge in anyway that satisies them. The purpose is meaningful today because Today men are still leaving their wives for other women and they seek revenge by taking their money, violence, and other ways to make up for the pain they endured.
The purpose in this particular play to me is broader than just revenge or seeking payback. In my opinion it deals with karma and the extremes of the penalties of your actions. In that period where women were lesser than men Jason couldnt have guessed Medea would be capable of any threatining act.but in the end due to his deeds, the ultimate punishment was insued, though unnessicary she made her point.---------Jarvis
I believe this play shows that love and hate are actually closely related. They both can act on pure passion and on impulse without realizing to caring about the ultimate consequences.
